This is my mom's lentil soup. Terrific for cold days or a healthy hearty meatless dinner.

1 lb package of dry lentils
1 medium to large onion, chopped
4-5 garlic cloves, minced
2 tsp oil
oregano, salt, pepper to taste

Fill a 5 quart pot with water.
Add dry lentils, onions, garlic, oil and spices.
Bring all ingredients to a boil and stir.
Lower heat and simmer 2-3 hours.

I like to sprinkle parmigiana cheese in my bowl.
